Russco is a family-owned and managed contracting company with over 70 years of experience serving clients throughout the U.S. across various industries. We exist to engage with our clients to understand their business and support their missions that benefit their customers. The foundation of our approach to the design and construction process is to consistently conduct our business with integrity to deliver superior quality projects. Our clients’ teams are an extension of our own, and we proactively seek creative opportunities to mitigate risks, optimize schedules, and minimize cost exposures. The results are long-term, personal relationships that transcend careers, companies, and industries. Through on-going service for our existing clients, and as new clients join our portfolio, Russco continues to evolve and grow.
Founded in 1952 by Russell Pichette as Russell & Co., the original focus was on building and maintaining drive-in theaters. The customers included most of the area’s major players, including EM Loews, General Cinemas, and Patriot Cinemas, many of whom we still have ties with today.
Using a conservative and common sense approach one store turned into 30-40 stores per year. With this new found success as we established our footing in the construction industry, the company’s name was updated to Russco Inc.
As outdoor theaters decline in number, we followed the industry to indoor cinema, becoming specialists in splitting older, large capacity theaters into two, three and four plex theaters: the precursor of today’s multiplexes. Russco has a history of responding to changes in the construction environment by keeping options open and reacting to new opportunities. While performing work for many of the mill buildings in Southern New England in the 1980’s, we were asked to build a retail store for Anderson Little, a clothing line manufacturer and retailer. Russell and his son, Russ, who had joined the company a couple of years earlier, accepted the offer and broke into another segment of the construction industry.
Russell’s younger son, Matt, joined the Company in 1987. Matt went through a comprehensive training program to learn different aspects and disciplines of the business. Russ would soon come to run the office and Matt came to oversee the Field Teams and projects. This combination gave Russco the ability to control schedules, cost, and quality in order to successfully deliver jobs covering a wide geographic area.
When F.W. Woolworth dissolved the Anderson-Little Chain in 1992, Russco continued its evolution with another shift in focus. While devising a new marketing strategy to target new clients, Russco returned to its roots of doing theater maintenance work, office space, and retail projects for local developers.
Russco’s excellent reputation quickly brought new opportunities. In 1994 Payless ShoeSource became a client, and Toys “R” Us and Foot Locker joined the list of clients in 1995. Growth continued over the coming years with Taco Bell, Radio Shack, Olympia Sport, J Crew, and Wilson’s Leather joining the portfolio. Russco continues to seek ways to positively impact our current and future clients.
With over 70 years of experience, Russco is positioned to evolve and grow as we look to the future. We have consistently exceeded our clients’ expectations by focusing on delivering our projects with integrity and quality to form lasting relationships with our clients.
Russco is dedicated to performance in an industry that demands it throughout the design and construction process.
